How We Rate Betting Sites and Build Our Tips

Scoring criteria and weights for Kenyan bookmakers, and the method behind our daily predictions.

We rate Kenyan betting sites on six weighted criteria, with licensing and M-Pesa payments counting most, and every score is built from public sources rather than accounts we hold with operators. Our tips follow a separate written method based on published team data and market prices. This page explains both, so you can decide whether our priorities match yours. Both feed everything you see on the BetTips.co.ke home page.

Where the information comes from

All research is desk research. For each bookmaker we read its own site and terms, help centre pages on deposits and withdrawals, promotion rules, app store listings on Google Play and the App Store, and regulator announcements. When we write "according to the operator's published terms", that is literally where the fact came from. We do not open betting accounts, deposit money, request withdrawals or call support lines, so we never describe a payout speed or a chat with an agent as if we lived through it. The people who do this research are described on the page about our editors and analysts.

Facts that change often, such as bonus amounts, minimum deposits, paybill numbers and promo codes, are kept in one operator record and displayed from there. When a figure changes, we correct it once and the update shows on every page that uses it.

Bookmaker scoring criteria and weights

CriterionWeightWhat we look for
Licence and legal standing30%A current Kenyan licence number shown on the site, consistency with regulator notices, no record of blocked paybills
Payments20%M-Pesa paybill and STK push, Airtel Money support, stated withdrawal limits, a clear tax note on deposits and withdrawals
Sportsbook and markets20%Depth on EPL, KPL and European leagues, live betting, cash out, jackpots and booking codes
App and light access10%Official store listings, lite or USSD options for low data, SMS betting
Bonus terms10%Minimum odds, wagering and expiry as written in the rules, not the headline figure
Support and transparency10%Published contact channels, responsible gambling tools, readable terms

A bookmaker without a verifiable licence cannot reach a high score, however strong its odds or offers look. If our research finds that a brand has closed or stopped serving Kenya, its review stays online as a warning, it is removed from every ranking, and we advise readers not to deposit.

How our tips are produced

Predictions on our predictions hub and jackpot predictions pages follow the same checklist for every fixture:

  1. Recent form home and away, goals scored and conceded.
  2. Published team news: injuries, suspensions and rotation before European games.
  3. Head-to-head context where the sample is meaningful.
  4. Market prices from several bookmakers, converted to implied probability, to see whether a pick has value at all.
  5. A short written reason, so you can disagree with the logic rather than trust a label.

No pick is sure. We do not publish win-rate claims, we do not sell tips, and we never present a prediction as inside information. The method for each market, from BTTS to correct score, is explained on its own page, and our betting strategy guide covers staking.

Updates and corrections

Each page shows the date of its last review. Operator records are revisited regularly, and regulator changes, such as the move from the BCLB to the GRA (Gambling Regulatory Authority), trigger a review of every affected page. Spotted an outdated figure? Send it through the contact page.

Commercial independence

We may earn a commission when a reader joins a bookmaker through our links. Payment never changes a score or a tip. The full arrangement is set out in our affiliate disclosure. Betting is for adults aged 18+ only.

Frequently asked questions

Do you test betting sites with real money?

No. Our ratings use the operator's public terms, help pages, app store listings and regulator notices. We say so on every review so you know what a score is based on.

Can a bookmaker pay for a better rating?

No. Commissions from affiliate links never change the weights or a score. A brand with no verifiable licence stays low regardless of any commercial deal.

Why do bonus offers count for only 10% of the score?

Offers change every few weeks and the rules behind them, such as minimum odds and expiry, matter more than the amount. Licence and payments affect your money far more.

What is your tips win rate?

We do not publish one. Short samples are misleading, and no honest tipster can promise a result. Each pick comes with its reasoning so you can judge it yourself.
