Betting Guides

Our betting guides explain the terms and mechanics Kenyan punters meet every day, starting with the question we are asked most: double chance meaning. A double chance bet covers two of the three possible results of a match in one selection, so you win if either of them happens. Below is a short glossary of the markets that cause the most confusion, followed by our full guides to bet slips, tax, strategy and placing your first bet.

Double chance meaning in betting

A football match has three possible results: home win (1), draw (X) and away win (2). Double chance lets you back two of them at once:

OptionYou win ifYou lose if
1XThe home team wins or the match is drawnThe away team wins
X2The away team wins or the match is drawnThe home team wins
12Either team winsThe match is drawn

So "double chance 12 meaning" is simply "no draw", and "double chance X2 meaning" is "the away side does not lose". Because you cover more outcomes, the odds are lower than a straight 1X2 bet. Double chance is useful when you rate a team but fear a draw, and it is a common leg in accumulators. Our double chance predictions page applies this market to today's fixtures.

What over 2.5 means in betting

Over 2.5 goals wins if the match produces three or more goals in total, counting both teams, in normal time. Under 2.5 wins with two goals or fewer. The half goal exists so there can be no tie: a match cannot end with 2.5 goals. Over 1.5 needs two or more goals and over 3.5 needs four or more. Extra time and penalties do not count unless the market says so. For daily picks in this market, see our over 2.5 predictions.

Correct score "any other" meaning

Correct score markets list the common scorelines, usually up to 3-3 or 4-4. "Any other" (sometimes "other") covers every score not on the list. Some bookmakers split it into "any other home win", "any other draw" and "any other away win". If you back "any other" and the match ends 5-1, you win; if it ends 2-1, you lose because 2-1 has its own line. It is a long shot used mainly when you expect a very high-scoring game.

Double chance versus a straight win: a quick comparison

Take a home side priced at 1.90 to win, with the draw at 3.40. Double chance 1X on the same match might be priced around 1.25. On a KES 500 stake, the straight win returns KES 950 and the 1X bet returns about KES 625. You give up a large part of the return in exchange for also winning on a draw. Whether that trade makes sense depends on how likely you think the draw is: if you rate it at one in four or higher, double chance often fits; if the home side is a heavy favourite, the straight 1X2 price is usually the better bet.

Other terms new punters ask about

  • BTTS (both teams to score). Wins if each team scores at least once. "GG" and "NG" on some Kenyan sites mean goal-goal and no-goal.
  • Draw no bet. Back a team to win; if the match is drawn, your stake is returned.
  • Handicap. One team starts with a goal advantage or deficit. A -1 handicap on the home side means they must win by two goals.
  • HT/FT. Predict the result at half time and at full time, for example X/1: draw at the break, home win at the end.
  • Cash out. Settle a bet early for an amount offered by the operator, usually less than the full potential return.
  • Void. The selection is cancelled and treated as odds of 1.00, usually because the match was postponed.

How we write these guides

We explain markets and mechanics from bookmakers' published rules and generic Kenyan practice, such as M-Pesa paybill deposits and SMS betting. Rules vary by operator, so the settlement terms on the bookmaker's site always take priority over a general guide. We do not claim personal testing of every operator, and we never present betting as a way to earn an income. All betting is for adults 18+ only; if it stops being fun, read our responsible gambling page.

Frequently asked questions

What does double chance 1X mean?

1X wins if the home team wins or the match ends in a draw. It loses only if the away team wins.

What is the difference between double chance and draw no bet?

Double chance 1X pays a win on a draw. Draw no bet returns your stake on a draw instead. Double chance usually has lower odds for that reason.

What does 1X2 mean on a betting site?

1X2 is the three-way match result market: 1 is a home win, X is a draw and 2 is an away win. It is settled on the score after normal time plus stoppage time, so extra time in a cup tie does not count unless the market says so.

What does "any other" mean on a correct score market?

It covers every final score that does not have its own line in the list, usually high-scoring results such as 4-2 or 5-1.

What do GG and NG mean on Kenyan betting sites?

GG means both teams score (goal-goal) and NG means at least one team fails to score (no-goal). They are the same as BTTS yes and no.
